Step By Step Guide:

1.  Create a Moodboard or Story Board.  The Mood Board or story board is the vision and trend direction behind your designs. It communicates to your audience the theme, colours, trend and style direction behind the inspiration of your designs.  Its an important aspect for a designer, and helps to set the tone and make sure your designs are all coherent.  Use Pinterest to collect images  to include on your moodboard.  The moodboard  template is included in the template above on page 2.
2. Select Pantone colours.  Pantone colours are universal colours used in the Fashion Industry to communicate key colour information for fabrics and prints.  You can use pantone.com to select pantone colours,  and also google pantone colours in pinterest.   Our Fashion Portfolio Template includes boxes already for you to colour with your chosen colour-  then you simply look up  the code for the colour  you are selecting on Pantone.com and write the colour code in there.
3. Select Fabrics for your Designs.  Use google and also pinterest to get images of your fabrics to include on your mood board.  If you live near a fabric store- you can take photos of your chosen fabrics and upload your own fabric to include in your portfolio.  Follow our template to know where to position them.
4. Present your designs– Upload your paper sketches into www.Canva.com and lay them out in your portfolio. Use a free tool such as https://remove-background.com/  to remove the background of your design sketch.  Play with different sizes of your sketch, (layering one large, semi transparent,  then a smaller one).  This fills out the page and creates interest through proportions.  Follow our template for examples. Present your designs- all 4 to one sheet (the complete collection page),  then  individually put one design per sheet ( individual design pages).  Follow our Template for examples on how to do this.

Optional Additional Steps:

The above creates a visually appealing professional fashion portfolio quickly, using only 4 designs.

If you want to flesh out your portfolio even more, or add some additional details for a job interview scenario or college or school application scenario,   heres some suggestions:

1.  Include 2D flat sketches or technical sketches of your design. ( showing construction details and tech details of your design. for example wear the seams are, and details such as zippers and darts or pleats.)
2. Draw your designs digitally using Adobe Illustrator or Procreate (this shows you have digital design skills as well as drawing skills)
3. Add  texture to your drawings by using rendering techniques to show different fabric textures
